The issues of biodiversity are related to the threats of cultural diversity because each cultural is unique to learn own surroundings and environment. For example, ancient people’s rituals were formed based on their surroundings. The Ancient Aztec participated in rituals focused on Jaguars, most likely because the jaguar is a popular animal for that area. I think governments should be actively involved in protecting cultural diversity. I think this because cultural diversity is what makes our world unique and encourages others to expand their knowledge. It teaches others to appreciate what makes an individual unique.
In Wade Davis’ TED talk, Davis mentions the different religions of the world and how religions can be associated to certain regions of the world. These religions are what make the regions and people unique. If you want to study a certain religion you can travel to this region and be emerged into the culture- similar to what Davis did in the Saharan to study Voodoo. Eliminating protection for cultural diversity, takes away learning opportunities like these.
One argument that can be made against protecting cultural diversity, is simplification. The idea that only one language, one set of cultures, and one set of traditions would make global travel and communication simpler. I can understand the thinking behind this argument. I would love to be able to not stress over wondering if I will be able to get around in a foreign country because. I do not know the language. However, I feel that would take away from the experience of traveling someplace new.
